Summary

A critical steering failure warning appeared on the portside Volvo display, putting safe operation at risk. We were called in to pinpoint the cause and determine the next steps. The owner needed a clear answer and a reliable fix.

The Work

Inspected the EVC system and found a blown fuse on the port steering control unit (SCU) power supply
Replaced the fuse but found it failed instantly, prompting in-depth circuit isolation
Tested the wiring harness for voltage and shorts, then checked the SCU's internal condition
Identified a severe internal short and heat buildup within the SCU, confirming hardware failure

The Outcome

We isolated the fault to the port steering control unit, ruling out issues with the vessel's wiring and power. The owner now knows a replacement SCU and system programming are required to restore safe steering. If you’re facing similar steering errors, we’re ready to help troubleshoot and guide you to the right repair.
